ASTROCLK DOCUMENTATION FILES
Because of its size, the main documentation for ASTROCLK has
been split into two files. The following files contain all of the
program documentation:
ASTROCLK.DOC This file
ASTROCLK.DC1 Main documentation, Part I
ASTROCLK.DC2 Main documentation, Part II
ASTROCLK.HST Complete modification history
ASTROCLK.NEW Recent modification history
README ASTROCLK Questionnaire
Some users have complained about the length of the main
ASTROCLK documentation, particularly when updating from one
version to the next. I agree that it IS very long, and perhaps I
spend too many words describing what is going on. The objective,
of course, is to explain the program as completely as possible,
to provide useful or interesting background information, and to
try to dot all the i's and cross all the t's. Since ASTROCLK has
become a rather complex program, that kind of documentation is
bound to be rather lengthy. I see no "easy way" around the
problem; new users still need the full documentation.
Before printing the main documentation after updating, check
that it is a more recent version than the one you have. Another
suggestion for users updating from one version to another is to
print either ASTROCLK.HST (all changes during the past year or
so) or ASTROCLK.NEW (recent changes to the program). Then, if you
decide you wish to print only some sections, use a text editor to
view the Table of Contents at the beginning of file ASTROCLK.DC1
and selectively view or print those sections which are affected
by the changes.
The HELP file has been expanded to give more detailed infor-
mation on some of the more complicated operations and reduce the
frequency with which users may have to refer to the documentation
but that can't include every detail.
In spite of a recent spate of updates (related to navigation
and improved accuracy), ASTROCLK is becoming more mature and
changes may occur less frequently. Comments and suggestions are
invited.
ASTROCLK is a free program and includes the QuickBASIC
source code. The program has been developed over more than two
years and has required more than two thousand hours of my time.
In return, the only request I make of users is that they take the
time to fill out and return the questionnaire in file README. All
responses will be considered confidential.
